Dr. Zunaid Karim is a Consultant Rheumatologist and Head of Clinical Services for Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Neurosciences at Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust. He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
He graduated from University College Dublin in 1993 and moved to Leeds in 1998 as a Research Fellow before completing his specialist training. His MD thesis focused on the role of ultrasonography in rheumatology practice.
Dr. Karim served as Treasurer of the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) from 2017 to 2020, and he is a former convener of the BSR Specialist Interest Group in Ultrasound. He is also a member of the OMERACT Ultrasound Group.
His recent publications have contributed to standardizing ultrasound definitions and pathology, as well as defining ultrasound training requirements.
He holds Level 3 accreditation from the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) and regularly teaches on both EULAR and BSR accredited ultrasound courses.
He has been a faculty member for the renowned Sonoanatomy Course in Barcelona for over 10 years and has also participated in the EULAR Teach the Teachers course.
