Prof. Abdul Badi Abou Samra

Dr. Abdul-Badi Abou-Samra is the Chief Quality Officer of Hamad Medical Corporation. He is also a Professor of Medicine at WCMC-Q since January 2013.  He is an MD/PhD physician scientist with clinical and research skills. Prior to coming to Qatar, Dr Abou-Samra was Chief of Endocrinology at the Wayne State University, Detroit, USA for 5 years; attending physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital; and Instructor, Assistant and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and Principal Investigator of NIH-funded grants (21 years), Boston, Massachusetts. He is certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes and metabolic diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His research (1986-2012) was continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for studying G protein-coupled receptors, insulin action and nutritionally regulated genes.  Dr. Abou-Samra published over 150 original papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to 5 USA patents. He was a member of the endocrine study section of the National Institute of Health and continues to be member of editorial board for several international journals.  He is currently Lead PI on 2 QNRF funded projects. He Co-Chairs the Qatar National Diabetes Committee, which developed the Qatar national diabetes strategy; and chairs a steering committee with the mandate to develop the Qatar Metabolic Institute.
