Ms. Mariam Nooh Al-Mutawa
Acting Chief Nursing Officer - HMC

Ms. Mariam Al-Mutawa is the Acting Chief Nursing Officer, with a strategic oversight for nursing matters at Hamad Medical Corporation. With more than 23 years of nursing experience, Ms. Al-Mutawa supports the strategic direction for nursing and midwifery services across the corporation, ensuring its alignment with corporate objectives and the national health strategy goals. Ms. Al-Mutawa and her executive nursing leaders oversee more than 11,000 nurses and midwives, which make up the largest group of healthcare professionals in the corporation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was a key member of the strategic planning group responsible for managing HMC’s responses in accordance with national guidelines; she provided strategic nursing and midwifery support and advice to ensure HMC’s preparedness in managing the country’s healthcare needs.

Ms. Al-Mutawa is passionate about staff development, especially for young Qatari nurses, who are the future of Qatar's healthcare services, and has encouraged many to take on leadership roles.

Working alongside the interprofessional senior leadership team to provide quality patient services, Ms. Al-Mutawa is a keen advocate for the quality and safety of nursing services across the Corporation. Her strategic focus includes establishing structures and frameworks to ensure the right environment for ongoing development and support of professional nursing practice.

Ms. Al-Mutawa was previously the Executive Director of Rumailah Hospital, the first hospital in Qatar within HMC’s group of tertiary and secondary care hospitals, where she was part of the hospital's executive team. Ms. Al-Mutawa commenced working at HMC in 1998 and was amongst the first group of Qatari nurses who got their post graduate nursing degree. She gained extensive experience in different specialty areas, including four years as Head Nurse of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hamad General Hospital. As part of her career development, Ms. Al-Mutawa held the role of Director of Nursing for HMC-SickKids Partnership Project, where she led various projects, including Pediatric Nursing Education. This experience helped her qualify for the role of Director of Nursing in the HMC – SIDRA Joint Affiliation Office, supporting the implementation of the ‘one program, multiple institutions’ initiative across both institutions.

Ms. Al-Mutawa has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Qatar University and graduated in 2007 with a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Cairo University. She has received additional management and leadership qualifications over the past decade, including an Executive Leaders Program in 2017 from Qatar Leadership Center, where she was the first Qatari senior nurse to have graduated from the program. She is also a member of the Nursing Now - Qatar Committee, responsible for the local rollout of this global campaign, which  aims to improve healthcare globally by raising the profile and status of nurses worldwide; influencing policy-makers; and supporting nurses to lead, learn, and build a global movement.
