Dr James has diverse experience with a passion for supporting people in their Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Management journeys.

The fundamental principles of respecting people and continuous improvement have been a major influence in his life. Bringing this to his work, within the Quality and Patient Safety domain, coaching his team or working with patients or colleagues, continuous improvement is Dr James' goal for himself and those around him.

Proudly an Improvement Advisor trained by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, prompting a never-too-late enthusiasm for learning more about W. Edwards Deming and how his teaching can be applied today.

Dr James worked in the UK National Health Service, a medical Internet start-up and the pharmaceutical industry before joining Hamad Medical Corporation Ambulance Service, first as Senior Consultant and then Head of Quality and Patient Safety. Actively involved in coaching and mentoring a team in the ways of continuous improvement, Deming and others, Dr James enjoys encouraging others to see the joy that comes with an improvement mindset. Developing an outreach program for field-based Paramedics to provide context-based, action-focussed support to build capability in Quality Improvement.

Dr James has explored ways to bring data analysis, visualisation, automation and machine learning into the realm of Quality and Safety, fully utilising the power of Statistical Process Control for governance reporting and signal detection. Using 'Lean', but not limiting himself to the one paradigm or use of tools alone, Dr James is always seeing the chance to improve.

Dr James' belief in the principle of respecting people underpins his work in supporting and evolving a 'Just Culture' in the realm of Patient Safety.
