Professor Ruben Peralta is the Deputy Trauma Medical Director, Senior Consultant and the Director of the HMC Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship Program. He graduated from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU) in Santo Domingo, DR, with honors. He trained at the Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts, USA. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of several prestigious medical and surgical scientific societies.
Dr. Peralta has extensive experience in the areas of trauma and complex surgery, emergency, disaster medicine, hemostasis and coagulation. Dr. Peralta’s specialties include management of highly complex critically ill and injured patients, minimally invasive surgery, general and emergency surgery, disaster medicine, critical care medicine, equal access to healthcare and quality, injury prevention, and minority recruitment into the health professions, cross-cultural medicine and medical education.
Dr. Peralta has authored and co-authored over 300 publications, abstracts and book chapters addressing a broad range of surgical topics. As an Academic Surgeon, Dr. Peralta has been awarded more than US$2M in competitive research grants in Qatar alone. As an educator, he has led the Trauma, Emergency and Critical Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education and training program of more than 44 physicians in trauma surgery, emergency and critical care medicine in the Middle East region. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the prestigious Academy of Master Surgeon Educators of the American College of Surgeons for his outstanding contributions and internationally recognized leadership in the innovation and advancement of the surgical science and education. He is a professor of surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, emergency medicine and global health.
