Josh Overgaard

Josh Overgaard, M.D. is an assistant professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, USA. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 2010, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Thereafter he completed a year as chief resident, and then an additional year as a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) fellow. He spent six years practicing general internal medicine at a community practice in Minnesota where he also served as Chief of Staff and then Chief Medical Officer. In 2021he joined Mayo Clinic General Internal Medicine, where he continued to pursue educational, research, and administrative opportunities. He currently serves as teaching faculty in the Internal Medicine Residency and leads POCUS workshops at multiple national and international continuing medical educational conferences. He is involved in research related to artificial intelligence, quality/practice optimization, POCUS, and medical education. He currently leads the General Internal Medicine – Destination Medicine practice where he works to optimize and streamline the care of Mayo Clinic destination patients, and he serves on the enterprise POCUS workgroup. His clinical practice areas include consultative internal medicine, inpatient hospital medicine, and perioperative medicine.
