Prof. Abdul Badi Abou-Samra, MD, PhD

Professor Abdul-Badi Abou-Samra has a Medical Doctor degree from Aleppo University, Syria (1979) and a PhD degree in biochemistry from Lyon-1 University, France (1982). He is certified in internal medicine and endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
He served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital as Assistant and Associate Professor of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, between 1986 and 2007 (21 years), on the faculty of Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan as Professor of Medicine and Professor of Genetics between 2007 and 2013 (6 years), and in 2013 he joined the faculty of Weil Cornell Medical College, New York, as Professor of Medicine and the clinical team at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar.
He led a research team at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School (1986-2007), was Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at Wayne State University, Michigan, USA (2007-2013). In 2013 moved to Qatar as Chairman of Medicine (2013-2020). He is the Chief Quality Officer and Chairman of the Adverse Medical Outcome Committee at HMC. He co-chairs the Qatar National Diabetes Committee of the Ministry of Public Health, which drafts and implements the Qatar National Diabetes Strategy.
Professor Abdul-Badi Abou-Samra contributed to 378 research publications listed on Google Scholar with a h-index of 65. His research has been continually funded by the National Institutes of Health (1986-2014), USA and/or the Qatar Foundation (2014-current), Qatar.
