The clinical and support team has been specially trained to provide high-quality, empathetic care to male and female victims of sexual assault, including the following services, all of which are optional:

  • Medical treatment
  • Prescribing medication, including emergency contraception
  • Psychological/mental health support
  • Forensic examination

Victims of sexual assault and those seeking the advice of the service should call +974 4025 6460 for immediate support and to receive an appointment. The team will schedule the appointment promptly, and aims to ensure care is provided within two hours of the initial request.

What to expect during your appointment

Appointments will be made following an initial telephone triage and conversation with a trained emergency department nurse or physician via the dedicated number. All discussions and consultations are confidential and care is taken to ensure the safety of the victim.

During the initial phone triage, the team will be able to explain Qatar’s legal processes as it relates to sexual assault, including police reporting and forensic services, to inform the victim of their rights and address any security concerns.

Once the appointment is made, care is provided by a multidisciplinary team, consisting of members of emergency services and the sexual health team. Other specialists and mental health professionals will also be available as appropriate.

Services provided include treatment for any physical injuries as a result of the assault, testing for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV and the provision of appropriate early treatment such as antibiotics and emergency contraceptives, as well as any other treatment deemed necessary. Initial psychological support is available should it be desired by the victim.
