Dr. Mohit Bhatt graduated from Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India and subsequently obtained MD Medicine (1983) and DM Neurology (1986) from the University of Bombay. He completed his medical training by devoting four years in research in Movement Disorders at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada with Dr. Donald Calne. Subsequently, at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square, London, UK with Prof. C D Marsden.
Dr. Mohit Bhatt is credited with initiating Botulinum toxin injection for various movement disorders in Mumbai in 1991; first Movement Disorders dedicated practice in India and establish Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for Parkinsons Disease in India. He has more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, multiple book chapters and multiple invited presentations at national and international conferences.
Dr. Bhatt has keen interest in Wilson Disease and established a dedicated Wilson Disease Clinic, first of its kind in the country in 2010. He is credited for establishing a novel classification to measure disease load in Wilson disease. This is an internationally recognized classification.
Dr. Bhatt started a lay society to help patients with Parkinson’s disease called the Parkinson’s disease Foundation of India and it is the largest and the most active society to look after patients and their caregivers. He has been practicing as a Movement Disorder Consultant since 1992 in Mumbai and is known for introducing and popularizing this specialty in India. At present, Dr. Mohit Bhatt is Director of Neurosciences at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute, Mumbai, India.
