Professor David H Barlow
MA, BSc, MB ChB, MD, FRCOG, MRCP(Lond.), FRCP(Glas.), FMedSci, FRSE
Professor Barlow has been Director of Women’s Services at Hamad Medical Corporation from 2012 and Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Women’s Hospital. Appointed as Chair of new HMC Institutional Review Board (IRB) in 2016 and Chair of the Women’s Hospital Research Committee he also has a Professorship at Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar
His background is in academic obstetrics and gynecology and in academic management. He has more than 300 publications including more than 200 original research papers which have attracted currently 15,000 citations. Professor Barlow was Editor-in-Chief of Human Reproduction from 2000 to 2006 and a senior academic at the University of Oxford for 20 years from 1984 including Nuffield Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Head of Department for 14 years to 2005. At Oxford University he was a Fellow of Oriel College, Vice-Dean for Research and Development, and Chair of the Oxford NHS Research and Development Consortium.
From 2005 until 2011 Professor Barlow was Executive Dean of Medicine at the University of Glasgow. This involved Headship of the Faculty of Medicine which included the largest Medical and Dental Schools in Scotland as well as the School of Nursing. He also served as a Non-Executive Director of the Greater Glasgow NHS Health Board and Chaired the Health Board’s Clinical Governance Committee and Chaired of the West of Scotland Research Ethics Service Governance Committee.
