
Maria Pallayova, MD, PhD

Dr. Maria Pallayova joined Weill Cornell Medical college-Qatar (WCM-Q) in August 2015 as Instructor in Medicine. Prior to coming to WCMC-Q, Dr. Pallayova served as Associate Professor of Normal and Pathological Physiology at Pavol Jozef Safarik University in the Slovak Republic.
Dr. Pallayova holds an M.D. (2005) from Comenius University and a Ph.D. (DPhil) from Pavol Jozef Safarik University in 2008. Following her clinical specialty training in Internal Medicine, she completed a clinical fellowship in diabetes, metabolic and nutritional disorders at Pavol Jozef Safarik University in 2013. She also conducted and completed advanced postdoctoral research fellowships at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, USA (2008-2010) and at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom (2012 to 2013) and has successfully completed a number of international post-doctoral training courses in the areas of diabetes, sleep medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, and clinical research conduct, monitoring, and management.
Dr. Pallayova is a highly experienced clinical researcher with an extensive record of successfully conducted international clinical research studies and high-quality peer reviewed journal articles published in the areas of diabetes mellitus, obesity, and sleep apnea. During her career, she has received a number of international research awards, including The Anne Elizabeth Suratt Young Investigator Award (2007), The Young Investigator of the Slovak Republic Award (2007), and Diabetes Technology Society Peterson Student Research Silver Prize twice (2006, 2008), and obtained funding from the European Respiratory Society - International Long Term Research Fellowship (2008) and from the Slovakian Diabetes Association/Lilly Diabetes Clinical Research Initiative (2011).
Dr. Pallayova has extensive experience teaching medical and graduate students. She serves as co-chair of the DPhil/Ph.D.‘s study program Committee for Normal and Pathological Physiology at Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Slovakia. Dr. Pallayova also acts as an independent reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals and research grant funders.
