Description:

The Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC) is developed to provide more in-depth knowledge and skills in quality improvement science methodology. This is the first of its kind intermediate level course designed to complement the Basic and Advanced Level.

The goal of the Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC) is to provide topics that will support health care professionals to further develop their skills and knowledge and to increase their contribution in the quality improvement initiatives in their respective areas. Each course topic is based in evidence and values-based quality improvement methods designed to provide practical tools and knowledge that can immediately be applied in the healthcare system.

Outline:

 The Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC) will cover the following topics:

1. Evolution of Quality Improvement
2. Lens of Profound Knowledge
3. The Model for Improvement
4. Sequential PDSAs
5. QI tools (Driver Diagram, Process Maps and Pareto Charts)
6. Visual Display of Data
7. Developing and Interpreting Run Charts
8. Principles of Control Charts
9. Teamwork & Communication
10. Working Styles
11. Sustainability, Spread and Scale-up
12. Applying QI Science into improvement initiatives

Target Audience: HMC Staff meeting the selection criteria

Selection Criteria:

1. Must have completed the HHQI’s Fundamentals of Quality Improvement Course (FQIC)
2. Must be leading or part of an improvement initiative
3. Must have basic Excel skills

• Note: Graduates of the IHI Improvement Advisor Program, IHI Improvement Coach Program, HMC’s Fellowship Program, HHQI’s Improvement Specialist Program, HHQI’s Improvement Leadership Program (Cohort 7 to present), High-Performing Organizations Program and Clinical Care Improvement Training program (Cycles 14 to present) will not be accepted as they have obtained a course which is equivalent or more than the Intermediate Level.

Course Length: 3 full days (7am to 3pm)
