Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC)


Purpose & Objectives:

The Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC) is developed to provide more in-depth knowledge and skills in quality improvement science methodology. This is the first of its kind intermediate level course designed to complement the Basic and Advanced Level.

The goal of the Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC) is to provide topics that will support health care professionals to further develop their skills and knowledge and to increase their contribution in the quality improvement initiatives in their respective areas. Each course topic is based in evidence and values-based quality improvement methods designed to provide practical tools and knowledge that can immediately be applied in the healthcare system.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Describe the evolution of quality improvement
  • Develop a deeper understanding on the Lens of Profound Knowledge, The Model for Improvement and the Sequential PDSAs
  • Develop and interpret run charts in relation to quality improvement initiatives
  • Identify the principles of control charts
  • Develop and analyze the Pareto Charts
  • Create and explain process maps
  • Discuss the concept of sustainability, scale-up and spread
  • Recognize the importance of teamwork and communication

Format: The IQIC will be 2 full days of In-Person Sessions and with a maximum of 25 attendees. This is being offered monthly for all HMC Staff meeting the set criteria.
