Basics in Quality Improvement (QI), Patient Safety (PS) and Person-centered care (PCC) for Medical Students


Purpose & Objectives:

This Program aims at enhancing medical students’ knowledge and skills in quality improvement, patient safety, and person-centered care to enable them to become influencers of change as future doctors.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the Model for Improvement
  • Determine the basics of patient safety
  • Define the person-centered care and patient experience
  • Analyze a microsystem
  • Develop a project charter
  • Explain the driver diagram as QI tool
  • Explore PDSA cycles for testing change

Format:

This program is developed for training the graduating final year medical students at College of Medicine at Qatar University in collaboration with Medical Education Department and Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute at HMC. It will part of the “Preparation for Practice Clerkship” where the final year medical students rotate at their selected future career specialties at HMC, PHCC and Sidra Hospital. During the program, students will explore the Improvement methodology, determine the basics of patient safety and person-centered care and patient experience.

Students will be distributed by teams and will be evaluated through specific assignments, e.g. project charter, Driver Diagram, PDSA plans and self-reflection on the learning experience.
