Dr. Sandro Rizoli, Medical Director of Trauma, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar

Dr. Sandro Rizoli received his Doctor of Medicine degree and completed a General Surgery residency in Brazil. He moved to Canada in 1992 and underwent a second residency in General Surgery at the University of Toronto. His Residency was followed by two fellowships in Trauma and Critical Care and a PhD under Dr. Ori Rotstein.

In 2002, Dr. Rizoli joined the University of Toronto and the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as Associate Professor of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2012 and was awarded two endowed chairs: De Souza Chair in Trauma and the St Michael’s Hospital University of Toronto Endowed Chair in Trauma Research.

Dr. Rizoli was President of the Panamerican Trauma Society, the Trauma Association of Canada, and Chair of the Region XII (Eastern Canada) of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.

Currently, he has over 300 peer-reviewed publications and has supervised numerous PhD, MSc, clinical/research fellows, residents and students. Dr. Rizoli is presently the Medical Director of Trauma at Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar. He is also the editor of two surgical journals: JEMTAC and the Panamerican Journal of Trauma.
