Prof. Trepel is Chairman of the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology and Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Augsburg at Augsburg Medical Center in Germany
Prof. Trepel attended medical school at Tübingen University, Germany. He did his residency and fellowship for training in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology at the University of Freiburg Medical Center. He was board-certified in Internal Medicine in 2005 and hematology and oncology in 2007.
During 1998 - 2000, he was a postdoctoral associate at the Burnham Cancer Research Institute and The Salk Institute, San Diego, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.
From 2008 - 2018, he was Professor of Molecular Oncology at University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf, Germany.
Since 2014, he has been the Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center in Augsburg and Chairman of the Department of Hematology and Oncology at the Augsburg University Medical Center. Since 2020, he has been a full professor of Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology at Augsburg University.
Prof. Trepels' scientific focus is the development of novel technologies for receptor-targeted therapy and the role of the B-cell receptor in leukemia and lymphoma biology. He has discovered and described fundamental mechanisms of lymphoma biology and the principles of targeted gene transfer. His clinical focus is the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma.
