Ms. Carolyn Volker
Assistant Executive Director, Patient Flow, Hamad Medical Corporation
Ms. Carolyn Volker is currently Assistant Executive Director, Patient Flow at Hamad Medical Corporation and works within the Corporate Patient Flow Team.
Ms. Volker has been leading on improving clinical operations, co-ordination and bed management, working with key staff to implement solutions for improved flow across emergency, medical and surgical pathways.
Ms. Volker has held a number of senior nursing and managerial roles, both in the UK and South Africa. She completed her Registered General Nursing (with Honors) degree in South Africa, followed by post-graduate qualifications in Midwifery and Operating Theater Nursing (with Honors) where she received the National Florence Nightingale Award. Ms. Volker was one of the youngest Directors of Nursing appointed in South Africa at the age of 26.
Following relocation to the UK in 1990, Ms. Volker expanded her nursing career in senior management, completing an MBA. She has worked closely with several acute hospitals and partners in implementing national standards for emergency care, cancer and elective surgical standards.
Ms. Volker brings a wealth of senior nursing and managerial experience to Qatar and believes that the combination of both nursing and management have enabled her to develop an enhanced understanding of systems and processes in healthcare as well as the ability to put these into operational practice. Making change happen with successful outcomes for patients is what motivates Ms. Volker.
