I am a seasoned orthopedic and trauma surgeon and humanitarian health professional with over 15 years of experience spanning clinical care, public health, and emergency response in complex conflict and disaster settings. I have dedicated my career to advancing trauma care, surgical capacity, and health-system resilience in resource-limited environments across the Middle East and North Africa.
I have held senior technical and leadership roles with the World Health Organization (WHO) at both national and regional levels. Most recently, I served as an International Consultant for Trauma and Critical Care in Conflict Settings with the WHO Lebanon Country Office, where I led trauma care responses during the 2024–2025 war, supervised mass casualty management programs, and delivered critical trauma care training. Prior to this, as Regional Trauma Technical Officer at WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, I directed multi-country trauma and surgical initiatives, supported country offices, and conducted numerous field missions in active conflict zones.
My expertise includes orthopedic and war-related injury management, limb salvage and reconstruction, mass casualty management, critical surgical care, and prehospital systems. I have delivered more than 100 specialized training sessions and played a key role in developing WHO curricula on trauma care in armed conflict. I also translated the ICRC War Surgery Manual and served as the technical officer for a WHO Collaborating Centre on Trauma in Qatar.
I hold an MD, an MSc in Orthopedic Surgery, a Syrian Board certification in Orthopedics, and a PhD in the management of war-related limb injuries. I am deeply committed to education, humanitarian principles, and strengthening trauma systems to improve outcomes for populations affected by conflict and emergencies.
