Romergryko G. Geocadin, MD

Romergryko G. Geocadin, MD, is tenured Professor of Neurology, Anesthesiology-Critical Care Medicine, and Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He earned his BS from the University of the Philippines Diliman (1987), his MD from UERM College of Medicine (1991), completed internship at UP–Philippine General Hospital (1992), neurology residency at New York University Medical Center (1997), and a clinical and research fellowship in Neurocritical Care at Johns Hopkins (1997). He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1999.

Dr. Geocadin directed the Multidisciplinary Neurocritical Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and chaired its Multidisciplinary Critical Care Practice Committee. He led the Johns Hopkins Neurosciences Critical Care Division (2009–2011) and now co-directs the Johns Hopkins Encephalitis Center. He is co-chair of the Johns Hopkins Clinician Scientist Award Committee.

A clinician–scientist with over 25 years of experien​ce, his work focuses on acute devastating neurologic injuries, particularly acute coma, brain injury after cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury. He has served on multiple American Heart Association (AHA) scientific panels that produced AHA Scientific Statements and ACLS post–cardiac arrest guidelines and chaired the AHA panel on neurologic prognostication after cardiac arrest. He contributed to the Institute of Medicine Committee on Treatment of Cardiac Arrest and Joint Commission Standards for Cardiac Arrest Centers.

Dr. Geocadin is a Principal Investigator of the NHLBI/NINDS-funded ICECAP Trial, a major U.S. post–cardiac arrest clinical trial, and a contributor to the Seattle International Severe Traumatic Brain Injury Consensus Conference (SIBICC). He is a consultant to the WHO Brain Health Unit and co-editor of the book: geoComa, Stupor and Related Disorders of Consciousness (Elsevier, 2025).
He has authored over 280 peer-reviewed articles (h-index 73) and has held key leadership roles, including President of the Neurocritical Care Society and Vice President of the American Neurological Association.​​
