Barbara M. Mathes, MD, FACP, FAAD
Barbara M Mathes, MD, FACP, FAAD is a graduate of the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University and trained in dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where she served as Chief Resident. She is Clinical Associate Professor in the Dermatology Department at the University of Pennsylvania, where she trains students and residents, and attends dermatology clinics at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. Previously she was Professor of Dermatology and Medicine at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Medicine at University of Florida and Michigan State University, and was in private practice in Michigan and Florida. Dr. Mathes is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and has served as their Secretary –Treasurer of the AAD since 2011. She is a Fellow of the ACP and has been an invited lecturer at several ACP annual meetings, and was invited by the ACP to give 3 talks at the Society of Internal Medicine of Paraguay in 2015. She is a member of European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, American Dermatological Association, Alpha Omega Alpha and several local, national and international dermatology and medical societies and has given numerous presentations at their meetings. She was an invited speaker at Dubai Derma in 2015 and International League of Dermatologic Societies in Vietnam in 2018. Dr. Mathes is the author of 20 original papers, 3 book chapters, several UpToDate chapters on venous insufficiency, stasis dermatitis, local anesthesia and common office-base dermatologic procedures. She was a consultant to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) for 20 years. Her medical interests are dermatology education for dermatologists and non-dermatologists which led to creation of teaching vidoes, interactive learning modules and hands-on procedural workshops at national Dermatology and Internal Medicine meetings, and Medical Humanities focusing on art and narrative.
