Chair of Infection Control of Ambulatory Care Centre. Have been instrumental in the development of Microbiology services at HGH and Al-Wakra Hospital and involved in a number of initiatives including strategic planning in infection control and antimicrobial stewardship. Have also been involved in education and training activities in relation to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infections.

In 1997 I was appointed as Consultant Medical Microbiologist/Infection Control Doctor at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. I undertook the role of Clinical Skills Co-ordinator of the Postgraduate Education Centre, then Lead Clinician in Clinical Effectiveness of the Trust. I was then appointed as Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the Trust in 2000 until 2017. I was granted Honorary Senior Lecturer status with the University of Sheffield. I was then appointed as Executive Medical Director and Caldicott Guardian in 2001 until 2011, and in addition also undertook the role of Executive Chief of Division of Medicine from 2006-2009 for The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. I was then appointed as Honorary Professor to the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, Sheffield Hallam University in 2008 and Senior International Advisor to the University in 2013.
On a national level, I was an external advisor to the Care Quality Commission (2006 – 2009) and was involved in inspecting several NHS hospitals in relation to compliance with the standards of the Hygiene Code. I was also a member of the National Advisory Group in the reduction of MRSA and HCAIs and have assisted in reducing HCAIs in NHS Trusts.
I led the Level 7 Credit 30 Healthcare Associated Infections Module at Sheffield Hallam University. He was also instrumental in the education and training of international doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists at the University and regional NHS Trusts. I have co-led the medical leadership programme for international doctors at Sheffield Hallam University.
