Dr. Raza Ali Akbar

Dr. Raza Ali Akbar is currently working as a Consultant in General Internal Medicine and as Clinical Lead for Informatics at the Division of GIM, at Hamad General Hospital (HGH), Doha, Qatar. Dr Raza is a core faculty member of the Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship Programs. He is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, Qatar.
Dr Raza graduated in 2002 from Ayub Medical College (Abbottabad, Pakistan) where he was declared as the Best Graduate in MBBS. He has been awarded 18 Gold Medals to date, including the all-prestigious ‘Aizaz-e-Sabqat’ Gold Medal conferred by the President of Pakistan. 

Dr. Raza completed his Higher Specialist Training with dual CCTs in Acute & General Internal Medicine in the United Kingdom, where he worked for almost 10 years in the National Health Service (NHS). He did his Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from Cardiff University. 

Dr Raza worked as a Consultant in Acute Medicine and Clinical Lead for Education and Training at City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (UK) before moving to Qatar in 2014. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh since 2014 and is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK. He has also been an examiner for MRCP(UK) Parts 1 and 2 written exams since 2012. 

Dr Raza was elected as the Best Teacher for two consecutive years (2016 & 2017) by the Internal Medicine Residency Program at HGH. He led successful launch of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for division of GIM at HGH and is currently leading many projects in Informatics to improve staff education and training, and to enhance work streams for more efficient and effective patient care across HMC.
