Maha Al-Asmakh
MSc, PhD, CTgyn(ASCPi)CM


Dr. Al-Asmakh is an Associate Professor and Head of the Biomedical Sciences Department at the College of Health Sciences, Qatar University. She also serves as the Chair of the Reproductive System Network Group at Qatar University. Dr. Al-Asmakh earned her BSc in Biomedical Sciences with honors from Qatar University, followed by an MSc in Human Reproductive Biology from Imperial College London. She later obtained her PhD from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. She is board certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a gynecologic cytologist [CTgyn(ASCPi)].

Dr. Al-Asmakh’s research interests focus on microbiome studies, reproductive health, and zebrafish toxicology. She has received numerous awards, including the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Middle East Fellowship in 2016 and the prestigious ASCP 40 Under Forty award in 2023. In February 2025, she received the Best Research Proposal Award at the Fifth Women in Science Forum at the University of Sharjah. In addition to her academic role, Dr. Al-Asmakh is a licensed Laboratory Consultant Clinical Scientist by the Ministry of Public Health.

Dr. Al-Asmakh is actively involved in the scientific community, serving as a reviewer for scientific journals and research grants. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
