Professor Ruben Peralta is the Deputy Trauma Medical Director, Senior Consultant and Director of the Trauma Critical Care Fellowship Program. He graduated from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña in Santo Domingo, DR, with Honors. He trained at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He holds certifications from both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and the American College of Chest Physicians and a Member of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, ACS, USA.

Dr. Peralta has authored or coauthored over 390 publications, abstracts, and book chapters. As an Academic Surgeon and scientist, he has been awarded more than US$ 3 Million in competitive research grants in Qatar alone. As a Surgeon Educator, he has led the Trauma, Emergency and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education and training program of more than fifty-five physicians in trauma surgery, emergency, and critical care medicine in the Middle East. He is co-author of the 11th Edition of the ATLS Manual and co-author in the Spanish translation of ATLS manual. He is a member of prestigious medical and surgical scientific societies.

Dr. Peralta’s more recent academic and humanitarian awards include Induction to the inaugural class of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators as Associate Member, American College of Surgeons in 2018, and as a Master Surgeon member for his outstanding contributions and internationally recognized leadership in the innovation and advancement of the Surgical Science and Education. The prestigious 2021 International Harald Tscherne Teaching Award at the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery. The 2022 Oscar de la Renta Dominican Emigrant Award, for his lifetime altruism and humanistic work in benefits of the citizen of the Dominican Republic. In 2022 was recognized as an Honorary Fellow of the Dominican College of Surgeons. In 2023, Dr. Peralta was awarded The Best Teacher Award, Medical Education at Hamad Medical Education.

In 2023, he was inducted into the AAST Leadership Academy of The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST). In 2024, he was awarded the 2024 Premio Gran Gladiator, for humanitarian contributions to diaspora. Madrid, Spain. In 2024, he was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the Kosovo College of Surgeons, Pristina, Kosovo. In 2025,
he was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the Society of General Surgeons of Peru. In 2025, he was inducted as a Member of the Academy of Medicine of the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Peralta has developed and launched the Qatar Global Trauma Care Training Program in 2025, endorsed by the WHO, aiming to bridge gaps in trauma training, which is tailored to different regions of the globe, from technologically advanced to resource-limited areas struggling with war conflicts and natural disasters, like the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. He is the Distinguished Professor of surgery, anesthesia, emergency medicine, critical care medicine & global health.
